    Pause August 2020 | Introducing Our Amazing Team

    We know it sounds corny, but there really is no I in Team. This curated experience is only possible because we have incredible suppliers and people holding our hands. The following service providers made Pause August 2020 possible, we are beyond grateful to each and every one of you.

    We would also like to do a massive shoutout to Dane, Bianca and Tula for being the most amazeballs flower fairies one can ever ask for. We appreciate you efforts more than you would ever know! We count ourselves lucky to have you in our life.

    Landtscap

    Landtscap is an amazing venue just outside Stellenbosch. This modern facade really served as the perfect backdrop. We love the exposed concrete walls, roof and the screed floor. The staff (Venue Manager Tammy) was absolutely amazing and they treated us and our students with so much care and respect. Nothing was too big or too small to ask.     Two Chefs

    Our students were treated with delicious food, snacks and drinks throughout the 3 days. Day 1 we had some yummy wraps with a lemon meringue for dessert. Day 2 we had some delicious burgers with home made chips and onions rings. Dessert was some chocolate pancakes. On day 3 we ended off with some comfort food, chicken pot pie!     Jani B Photography must be one of the best photographers out there and we were lucky enough to have her with us for 3 whole days! She captured moments we will truly carry with us forever. She also made sure that each student gets portfolio shots of their creations and we just love to see how proud they are when showcasing their work on social media. Visit her at https://janib.co.za .

    N Concepts & Designs

    Nico and his amazeballs team really transformed our blank canvas in the curated space our students enjoyed attending our workshop. Anything is possible with them in your corner and we are beyond grateful to have them on our team. They supplied all the draping, table linen and plinth stands for the individual tablescapes.     Alana van Heerden

    Alana van Heerden Bridal is definitely one of the sweethearts in the wedding industry. Not only is she ridiculously talented but she is also one of the nicest human beings you will ever come across.     Baie Goeters

    Baie Goeters is no stranger to those in the wedding and event industry. From unique and out the box lighting solutions to beautiful furniture and structures.     Iza Cloete

    Iza Cloete Make Up Artist is not only a super talented make up artist but she is also Anli’s sister! Iza is such a bubbly energetic human and she knew exactly what mood we wanted to created for the bride model.     Mari Fouche

    Mari Fouche is any creative’s dream  when you send out a casting call! When Mari showed interest in Pause August 2020 , we could not say yes quick enough. In front (and off) of the camera she is an absolute professional , needing no guidance at all. We would pick the gorgeous Mari for every editorial for the rest of our lives!     Two Birds

    Two Birds Celebration Planning is not only known for their wedding planning and exquisite event styling, but also for their exclusive decor and tabletop rentals.     Gold & I Designer Jewellery

    Gold & I Designer Jewellery is owned by Stephani Cillie. Her beautiful and unique pieces captured us from the get go! We loved playing around with her signature collection , Lucy in the Sky.     Ohrr Candle Collective

    Ohrr Candle Collective is seriously out of this world! Liezl , the owner, is also a crazy talented florist in Cape Town. Her eye is impeccable and it is very clear to see when looking at her beautiful collection of hand poured frosted candles. We absolutely adored the nude colour scheme she created for us.     Seven Teal Vessels

    Seven Teal Vessels is a boutique ceramic studio owned by Anni. She focuses on making small scale ceramic sets that screams handmade and one-of-a-kind!     Would you guess that we were shaking in our boots when this photo was taken?

    What an amazing experience this was!

    Our first ever Pause Floral Workshop and WOW, did we kick this journey off on a high note! 16 Amazing and creative hearts came together (and spent their hard earned cabbage) to share in our knowledge. 

    It is important for us to make our students feel special. Our little labour of love after each day of class is to set the table. We just love to see their faces when they walk in each day and see all of the special details put together just for them.

    Day 1 was all about theory and tablescapes. When learning a new skill (or even just sharping up old ones) it is best to start at the beginning. So we start with the basics and build our students up to a point where they have the skills to do anything they put their mind to.

    We are lucky enough to know amazeballs people in this industry. Some we even get to call our friends. Debbie is one of those people. Not only is she a crazy talented photographer, she also hosts phone photography workshop. Our students were lucky enough to get a crash course from the master herself!

    Meet Design by Marcel



    We introduce to another amazeballs friend of ours, Design by Marcel. Marcel is also from Tulbagh (like Anli) and he is literally the king of foraging. We are so lucky to have him educate our students on responsible foraging and also for sharing some of his favourite (and oh so funny) foraging adventures.

    Day 3 is all about the installations. We cover certain mechanics that you would mostly use when doing large installations. Here we only focussed on arch and hanging installations. Here we love to take a step back and observe our students. It is really amazing to see how they’ve grown in only 3 days, hearing them laugh and chatting up a storm with their new-found-friends.     This was really a very difficult post to put together. We wish we could share ALL of the beautiful photographs but that is just not possible!   • Why Pause?

    Why Pause?

    We have been experiencing a ‘more is more’ movement in the floral industry over the past few years.

    Although we can appreciate the massive scale and complexity of most of the designs, we have been feeling an intense yearning for scaling back, exploring simplicity in floral design and appreciating the pause and intention behind each and every flower we place. 

    Enjoying the unique curve of a wild flower, the curl of a dried leaf, or a mass of just one type of flower, as it would appear in nature. A quiet celebration of space that calms you down and inspires your soul! 

    I think it is so important to realise that simplicity does not automatically mean an all white palette or that you are only allowed to get excited when your colour scheme resembles something from 50 shades of beige. Amanda actually does get excited by those monochrome colours. She has never been a massive lover of strong bold colours, not until she met Anli! Anli really challenged her with the addition of colour to the first Pause workshop. 

    The ultimate goal of any design piece is to make an impression or convey a message. We feel that simplicity ensures that an arrangement or floral installation has maximum clarity. Having said that, simplicity definitely doesn’t mean one dimensional or boring, neither is it the same as minimalism. We know, it can be a bit confusing, but an easy way to explain it would be that minimalism is the reduction of quantity (using less flowers and decor elements for example), and simplicity is the reduction of complexity (using less types of flowers, or more of the same).

    We want to help an aspiring florist who craves this notion of simple design to stay true to their nature but also show them how they can do that while respecting their client’s brief. Thats why we think this workshop is going to be such an awesome experience. We are going to challenge the way you look at simplicity and also how different it is from minimalism.
